Distribution:
This is a wide-ranging species found originally from the island of Madagascar and East Africa to the Red Sea and Persian Gulf, around the whole of Asia to China, Japan and the northern half of Australia. It has ecently migrated through the Suez Canal and is now found also in the eastern Mediterranean, where it has been reported from Turkey, and Egypt. It is a marine shrimp, preferring muddy sand bottoms and water between 13 and 150 meters (42 to 500 feet).
